Richie Incognito Announces NFL Retirement After Stints with Raiders, Dolphins, More

Incognito's career began with the St. Louis Rams and ended with his retirement from the league.

The former Nebraska star played for the Rams, Bills, Dolphins, and Raiders in the National Football League.

Incognito decided to retire with the Silver and Black.

Football was the most important thing in my life since I started playing it at 12. Incognito said the game came first.

Football has taught me a strong work ethic, a willingness to get better and a desire to continue growing. It has shown me that I am more important than what you get. I will take all of these lessons with me into the next chapter.

I'm retiring from the football team today.

Incognito played in the Pro Bowl four times during his career.

The career of Incognito was controversial.

He was voted the dirtiest player in the league by his peers.

He was suspended indefinitely by the Dolphins for bad conduct. After his suspension was lifted, he sat out the rest of the year as he sought help for his mental health issues.

Incognito and fellow offensive linemen John Jerry and Mike Pouncey harassed teammate Jonathan Martin and other members of the Dolphins team and staff, according to an independent report.

Racist and anti-gay comments were made about Martin's mother and sister.

The report was unfair to my side of things and he thought Wells came in with a preconceived notion that I was guilty of doing that. I fit the bill.

Incognito was placed on a mental health hold in May of last year after throwing a tennis ball and dumbbell at a man.

Incognito was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and threats after an incident at a funeral home where his father was being held after his death.

According to a copy of the arrest report, the former Pro Bowler told employees of the mortuary that he wanted his father's head cut off for research and that he threw things at the funeral home.

According to witnesses, Incognito was supposed to sign cremation papers, but was not willing to do so initially. He walked through the funeral home and threw things. Incognito wanted to buy flowers for the funeral and everything they had before he gave them his credit card.

Incognito talked about the incident.

Incognito said it was emotional for him. I showed up at the funeral home, but I wasn't in top shape. I didn't think I was acting weird. You don't sleep, then the heavy marijuana dose and the drinking. It's a recipe for disaster for me.

After taking a break from football, Incognito will play 12 games for the Raiders in 2019. He was put on injured reserve due to a calf strain, which kept him off the field.

The people in Incognito's circle helped him get on track and return to the field in 2019.

"My mom, my brother, my step dad, and all the people that supported me," Incognito said. I couldn't have done it without their help.

His teammates came out to support him after he retired from the game.

Incognito yelled them out in his last letter.

The camaraderie with my teammates in the Silver and Black is what I will miss most. It was great to have them trust me to bring stability, leadership, and work ethic to a group of young men.

The Raiders made the playoffs for the first time in five seasons last year, as Incognito left the team.
