If Donald Trump were to win the presidency in 2024, it would be a disaster for US democracy, according to Insider.
Hill is concerned about the possibility of autocracy in the US.
In her memoir, "There Is Nothing for You Here: Finding Opportunity in the Twenty-First Century," Hill wrote that Trump may have paved the way for another president who was skilled in project management.
Hill, who served as the top Russia expert on the National Security Council under the Trump administration and later testified in the House impeachment inquiry into Trump's Ukraine dealings, wrote that Putin took the constitution's presidential powers and ran with them.
According to Hill, the current political climate in the US made her concerned that someone could pull a Putin in the near future.
Republicans continue to run for office on the back of Trump's lies, according to Hill. She said that prospective GOP presidential candidates have never acknowledged Biden as a legitimate president.
It would appear that the Republican party is hellbent on scuttling democracy to exert minority rule.
The electoral process in the US has been damaged by the election falsehoods perpetuated by Trump and his allies. Hill warned that this could lead to civil conflict.
I don't think we'd see the kind of conflict between the states that we had in the past. The US is in big trouble because people's sense of the civil and civic ways of resolving disputes is out the window.
