According to a source, the Kansas City Chiefs and Brown failed to reach an agreement on a long-term contract.
A source familiar with the deal says the final offer was a six-year, $139 million deal with an average annual value of $23.16 million that included a $30.25 million signing bonus and 95 million in the first five years of the contract.
A source said that both parties hope for a new deal after this season.
The franchise tag was given to Brown by the Chiefs. To get a new deal done before Brown is required to play under the tag. The average of the top five salaries at Brown's position is $16,620,000.
Brown was acquired by the Chiefs in a trade with the Ravens that sent a total of four draft picks to Baltimore.
