The head of global security at TikTok is stepping down. The interim head of TikTok's Global Security Organization is Kim Albarella. Cloutier will be focusing on the business impact of TikTok's security and trust programs. The popular app has faced increased scrutiny from U.S. officials.

The creation of a new department to manage U.S. user data for TikTok is one of the ways in which the company has evolved. Changes to the scope of the Global Chief Security Officer's role are a result of this investment.

TikTok staff in China had access to the company's U.S. users' data, according to a report by a news website. TikTok said it was moving U.S. users' data to the US.

According to the report, the U.S. officials have been concerned for years that the Chinese government could have access to the TikTok data.

Several Republican senators wrote to TikTok expressing concern about the company's policies regarding data access. TikTok admitted that some China-based employees have access to data, subject to a series of robust cybersecurity controls and authorization approval protocols overseen by the US security team. The company told the senators that it is working on a program called "Project Texas" to bolster data security for U.S. based users.
