Calvin Bassey: Brighton & Ajax hold initial talks over potential signing of Rangers defender

The potential signing of Calvin Bassey by Rangers was the subject of initial talks between the two sides.

Several clubs across Europe are interested in the 22-year-old, but no formal bids have been made.

Bassey was a key player for Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side last season.

Two years remain on the contract of the Nigerian international.

The versatile defender, who can play left-back and center-back, signed a four-year deal at I Rangers in the summer of 2020.

The Rangers board gave the go-ahead for Joe Aribo to leave the club and join Saints.

The opening day of the Scottish Premiership season will see Van Bronckhorst's men play Livingston.
