Europe overtook Asia to become the largest consumer of US crude oil for the first time in six years as Russia's war on Ukraine disrupted global energy markets.

The US exported more than 200 million barrels to Europe and Asia in the first five months of the year.

Europe has topped Asia since the US lifted its crude oil export ban. Europe's imports of US oil have been below 200 million barrels for the past few years.
