In College Station, Texas, Amazon will start delivering packages by drones later this year.

The second location to see the launch of Prime Air drones is east Texas. Amazon said last month that it would use drones to deliver packages in Lockeford.

The drones will be deployed by Texas A&M University. Amazon shoppers in College Station and Lockeford will be able to get free delivery on thousands of items.

The drones are able to deliver up to five pounds in less than an hour. Amazon said that Prime Air drones can fly up to 50 miles per hour.

The company said that its drones fly to a designated delivery location, descend to the shoppers' backyard, and hover at a safe height. Amazon said the device releases the package and goes up in the air.

At its re:MARS conference in Vegas, Amazon will debut an updated version of its Prime Air delivery drones. The consumer boss at Amazon said drones would be used to deliver packages within months.
