Sam said he was checking the seat allocations on the airline's app when he realized the flight had been changed from what he had booked.
We were leaving a different country.
I thought it was weird that we were leaving St Lucia instead of StVincent. It must have been an error. The customer service agent apologized to the man. You're in an overbooking situation, and we have moved your flight from StVincent to St Lucia, which is about 100 miles away as the crow flies. I said that was crazy. This needs to be changed back. This is not something to be proud of.
He told Denver7 that he hired a private plane to take his family to St.Vincent. He claimed to have filed a 19-page complaint with the airline.
"They're going to charge us huge change fees, re ticketing fees, and split reservation fees to bring us home a week later, and they're going to do it all for us," he said.
A representative for American Airlines told Denver7 that the airline had informed them of the changes in April. Customers could ask for a full refund or change their itinerary if flights were over booked.
The aviation industry has been having a difficult few months as demand for travel after the Pandemic returned, but combined with staffing issues that has triggered a wave of flight cancelations and chaotic scenes at airports.
