Santa Ono is the first Asian American to hold the position of university president.

Ono's appointment was approved by the school's board of regents at a special meeting on the same day.

Ono is the current president and vice chancellor of the University of British Columbia and previously served as president of the University of Cincinnati. He was the deputy to the provost at the time.

He expressed his gratitude for the appointment in a statement.

The University of Michigan is considered to be at the top of public higher education.

I want to support the education, scholarship, innovation and service of the university community. He said he was looking forward to cheering for the UM football team.

The board of regents removed former University of Michigan President Mark Schlissel from his position after he was accused of an inappropriate relationship with a colleague.

Schlissel used his work email to communicate with the employee in an "inappropriate" manner that wasn't suitable for the reputation of the university.

Sarah Hubbard said in a statement that she is confident that Ono is the right person to lead the university.

We heard it. "We heard you." Hubbard said. The person seated before us today is the right one for the University of Michigan.
