Children of the discordance SS20 Punches Up Color & Texture

After delivering a slightly more understated take on its upcycled garments for the Fall/Winter 2019 season, Japanese label Children of the discordance has given the vintage-infused pieces an extra punch of color and texture for Spring/Summer 2020. Designer Hideaki Shikama presented his latest collection at Tokyo Fashion Week earlier this month, revisiting his familiar penchant for bandana prints and bringing in refreshing approaches to fabrications like suede, leather and denim.

This showcase was brimming with pattern and color, as Shikama blended his usual bandana styling with a number of different prints, whether or not stripes, graffiti stenciling or camouflage. Button-ups were updated with collarless silhouettes, while T-shirts were given new life through fringed, patch-worked and tie-dyed options. Meanwhile, slouchy turtlenecks were printed with special phrases on the collar, giving a personalized CotD touch to an everyday item.

Bottoms were some of the most eclectic styles of the bunch. A slew of casual shorts featured alternating patterns on each side, while colorblocked jeans were frayed from top to bottom for a textural feel. Tying it all together was an outerwear variety to cover all the necessary bases: leather moto jackets, suede vests, flowing kimonos and boxy blazers.
