G.G. Jackson decommits from North Carolina.

Jackson is the first prospect to decommit from North Carolina in 20 years, while J.R. Smith went straight to the NBA. In the modern recruiting era, no player has left the Tar Heels for another school.

Jackson thanked God for watching over him and giving him the ability to play basketball. I would like to thank my coaches from middle school on up for believing in me and allowing me to play. I would like to thank coach Davis and the UNC basketball staff for giving me the opportunity to play basketball. The biggest supporters in my life have been my family, who have been by my side since I was a baby.

I decommit from UNC to explore other options that can help me grow from a teenage boy to an adult in order to reach my dream goal of playing in the NBA.

Over the last several months, reclassification rumors have circled around Jackson's recruitment, although he's consistently denied that he plans to enroll in college.

Jackson said that they were looking at it first. I looked at the people that reclassed up and saw how it affected them. I don't feel like I'm ready for college yet, so I wanted to stay in my class and prepare the best I can.

Speculation has increased in recent weeks that Jackson is going to play in college next year. According to sources, South Carolina was in the driver's seat for his commitment until the Gamecocks parted ways with Frank Martin in the spring. Jackson committed to North Carolina in April after Paris tried to get him.

One potential complicating factor in any reclassification decision would have been the Tar Heels signing Nance from the portal. Nance was signed as a replacement for Brady Manek.

Jackson is a basketball player from Ridge View High School in South Carolina. Through 14 games on the Nike EYBL circuit this season, he has put up 12.1 points and 9.4 rebound, and he has averaged 12.9 points and 9.8 rebound per game. He was named the Player of the Year in South Carolina during his junior high school career. Jackson was named the NBPA Top 100 Camp's Most Valuable Player after he averaged 14.0 points and 9.2 rebound.

Wilcher is the 10th ranked prospect in the class of23.
