The city of St. is located in the northeastern part of the United States The Old course was not fast. The pace was constant.

The start of the 150th Open Championship was marked by a two-shot lead over the rest of the field.

The wind in the morning was not as strong as it was in the morning. The Old Course was able to hold it's own because of the humps and mounds.

It's the worst Open I've been to. It's the only way to describe it. The 18th at Carnoustie was a runway. As the tournament goes on, you're going to get some funny bounces and it's going to test your patience at times.

Rory McIlroy, who led the PGA Championship after the first round and was one ck at the U.S. Open after the first 18, shot a 66 and trails by two at the Open Championship. Said McIlroy: "I did everything that you're supposed to do around St Andrews." AP Photo/Peter Morrison

The constant waiting was the best test of patience. The rounds took over six hours by the end of the day. It didn't help that so many players were looking for the best angles to tight pins and playing to the left into other fairways.

Tiger Woods missed the cut at the Open for the second year in a row with a 78.

The golf course is set up in a certain way. Fitzpatrick said it was how firm it was. To get better angles and better lines, you have to hit across all the holes. You can't do anything about it. It's sad more than any other thing. It's crazy.

54 players broke par and 26 of them did so in the 60s.

Young was a surprise leader because he was competing for the first time. The 25-year-old New Yorker is one of the better rookies on the tour, and he is not intimidated by the stage. He was in contention until finishing one shot out of a playoff at the PGA Championship.

Young was able to take advantage of the opportunities. The wind helped on the inward nine as he reached 7 under. He kept bogeys off his card by missing a couple of good chances.

Young did not think he played a perfect round of golf. I scored a lot. We thought our way around the way you have to go.

There was one time when he looked at his note in the yardage book and realized that he was on the left side of the fairway. He left and made a nice shot.

Young said that they did things like that a few times.

The winners of the Players Championship had 67s. The wind was at its strongest in the afternoon. The large group at 66 included a Masters champion and an English amateur.

The man who came off his second win in a row was in the group.

The ball was rolling faster on the fairway than it was on the greens, according to a suggestion made by the player. He realized that was the case. The Open comes to the old town at St. Andrew's when the ground is bad.

"I'm happy I'm not losing my mind."

It was the first time since 2010 that he looked free at St. Andrew. His game is in good shape, and he is playing well, with only one careless play that resulted in his lone bogey on the 13th.

It was a great start. When you start off your week, just what you hope will happen. You're supposed to do everything that I did around St. Andrew.

Good starts are something that has been happening this year. He was one shot off the lead after the first round of the U.S. Open. He couldn't hold it together until he fell behind.

He said he needed to back up what he did today.

The defending champion had a 72 on his putt. When there was a group on the fifth tee, he knew he was in for a long day.

We talked about it. "We're watching more golf than we've ever watched before," said Morikawa. You stay in the fairway, and you can see two other groups playing golf.
