Apparently we all need one more thing to freak out about, because New York City residents were treated to a PSA about how to survive nuclear fallout.

In an interview with the New York Daily News, Mayor Eric Adams defended the decision to release the PSA, despite criticisms that it was "alarmist" to do so, especially given the city's assessment that a nuclear attack is very low.

Adams believes in better safe than sorry. The Office of Emergency Management is where I go to get my hat off. After taking a very proactive step, they said, "Let's be prepared."

Cool Cool Cool

According to the report, the mayor mentioned the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine as a reason for the PSA, and said that residents should be prepared for any attacks on the city.

"We are still one of the top terrorist threats, and we are located in NYC and not New Jersey," Adams said. As New Yorkers, we always have to be ready.

In the video, the city's Department of Emergency Management advises New Yorkers to 1) get inside, 2) avoid windows and 3) wait for more information from the government, which may be sent via "wireless emergency alert"

Plan Ahead

In a press release about the PSA, the DEM said that it's currently working in conjunction with the city's police and fire departments, public transit system, department of health and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to prepare for a variety of disasters.

PlanNow NYC was plugged by the statement, though it used a broken link.

It is important that New Yorkers know the steps to stay safe since the likelihood of a nuclear weapon incident is very low.

I'm hoping they're correct.

Mayor Adams defended the public service announcement on surviving a nuclear attack.

The "Satan II" nuclear missile is almost ready for launch.
