Ozzie Guillen

Guillen used to be a manager of the WhiteSox. He will say it to you if he dislikes you. Guillen's "I don't give a toot" attitude often gets him in trouble with baseball fans and the media.

Since retiring from managing after the 2012 season, Guillen has continued to speak out about his former team. Guillen appeared on the NBC Sports Chicago postgame show after the ChiSox lost the first game of a twin bill to the Indians by a final of 4-1.

Guillen referred to La Russa as "Rick Renteria with credentials"

During the time Renteria was the White Sox manager, the team went from bad to worse. He was fired after his team finished one game behind the Minnesota Twins. In the Wild Card round, the team lost to Oakland. Renteria only won one season as a manager. Renteria took most of the blame for the White Socks's incompetence. Guillen was saying that La Russa was a bad manager. Given Guillen's history with the club, it was somewhat uncalled for.

Guillen isn't incorrect. The WhiteSox have a lot of talent and should be competing for a division title, yet halfway through the season, they are hovering around.500. Jon Heyman didn't like Guillen's comparison.

Guillen was eyeing a return to managing an MLB club, according to Heyman. Guillen went off on Heyman in response to the insinuation and called him every name in the book. Guillen apologized to NBC Sports Chicago, but wasn't done with Heyman, until he challenged Heyman to a fight.

Guillen is no longer associated with the team because of this fight.

Guillen isn't the biggest guy, but he doesn't back down. Heyman wouldn't want to fight. I would go at it with Guillen but Heyman is only 5'8" and he is 61 years old. Hey man is not. There is no chance he is going to take that fight.

Heyman said he wouldn't fight Guillen but would donate $500 to a charity of Guillen's choice if Guillen would do the same for him.

How much is 500? Is that the end? Is that really true? The best Heyman can do is $500. Make it a reasonable offer. Guillen didn't reply. There is a rumor that he has still got steam coming out of both of his ears as he sees Heyman.

Guillen's comments were not kind, but I don't think they held the intent that Heyman seems to imply. It's clear that La Russa should be fired. We are only halfway through the year. A late-season push for a playoff spot is a possibility. They could make a few moves at the deadline and compete with the Twins in the division. They might turn things around. Guillen's comments ring true, and you can't get upset with him for saying it.
