A federal judge once again denied Steve Bannon's attempt to delay his trial on criminal contempt of Congress charges stemming from the House investigation of the January 6 Capitol riot.
Judge Carl Nichols of the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. denied a motion from Bannon to delay the trial until October.
NBC News reported from the courthouse that the trial will go on as planned.
The large amount of publicity ahead of the trial raised the risk of prejudice against him among the jurors, according to a court filing.
The day before the trial is set to start, CNN is going to air a one-hour documentary on the man.
The trial was not going to be delayed by three months according to the previous proposal by the lawyers. The attorney argued that media coverage of the hearings would hurt his right to a fair trial.
In that same hearing, the judge ruled that he could not argue at trial that he failed to comply with the subpoena because of executive privilege. One of his lawyers asked in court if there was any point in going to trial if there were no defenses.
On Monday and Thursday, he didn't show up in the courtroom.
If he is convicted of the two contempt charges he faces for refusing to cooperate with the House select committee, he could be in jail for 30 days.
This is something happening. Please keep an eye on the news.
