Rashard Anderson, former Carolina Panthers first-round pick and Jackson State star, dies at age 45

Anderson was a first round pick in the 2000 NFL draft. The man was 45.

Anderson's death has been confirmed by the Carolinas, who said he died in Mississippi.

As of Thursday morning, the cause of Anderson's death wasn't known.

"Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends," the statement said.

Anderson was selected by Carolina with the 23rd overall pick in the 2000 draft. He was suspended for the entire 2003 season for violating the substance abuse policy and didn't play again in the league.

Anderson led Jackson State to the SWAC Eastern Division title in 1999 and helped the school win a conference title as a freshman. He was drafted in the first round by the Kansas City Chiefs.
