These 10 states are America’s worst places to live in 2022

There are five million more job openings in the US than there are employees. They are demanding a great quality of life in the places they work because of the power they have.

CNBC studies the quality of life in America's Top States for Business. It's important in our methodology now that workers are holding the cards.

Factors considered in our life, health and inclusion category include crime rates, environmental quality and health care. For the first time in 2022, we consider the availability of child care, which the U.S. Chamber of Commerce found to be a major obstacle for parents trying to reenter the workforce.

There are protections against discrimination in state laws. It's not politics, it's business.

Many workers turn down jobs that don't match their values, according to a new study. You want to be in a place where workers are willing to work for you.

Some states are more welcoming than others. These 10 states are short.

Nevada is one of the worst states for access to child care at a time when it is desperately needed. In the state's most populous areas, the desert air is not clear. There are more than three weeks of high ozone days in Clark County.

A major Ford electric vehicle facility has gained a lot of new residents in the Volunteer State in recent times. Workers are moving to a state that is less inclusive. The state has passed a number of laws aimed at the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer community.

Child Care Aware of America says that Indiana is one of the worst places in the country to get a license to run a daycare. The state doesn't spend a lot on public health. It is one of the worst in the nation.

The Land of Enchantment has one of the highest violent crime rates in the nation. Alaska is the worst state. In her State of the State address, the governor made a case for getting crime under control.

Louisiana has the nation's third highest cholesterol level and the fourth highest rate of premature deaths. The violent crime rate is one of the highest in the country.

Voting rights are a weakness.

Missouri became the 45th state to allow early voting for the general election. The bill that takes effect after the state's August primaries outlaws most mail-in voting and adds a voter ID provision.

According to Becker's Hospital Review, The Palmetto State has 2.19 hospital beds per 1000 residents. The state is ranked 44th for access to clinical care.

According to data from the United Health Foundation, Oklahomans are not very interested in taking care of themselves. The state is not a good place to live for adults without health insurance. Data from the Commonwealth Fund shows that hospitals have spent a lot of time under stress.

Quality of life issues are keeping skilled workers from moving to Texas. Florida and Washington are the top two states for net migration of college educated workers. When they arrive, they find a stressed health care system with the highest rate of uninsured, new curbs on voting rights, and little protection against discrimination.

The Grand Canyon State says it's a dry heat. The American Lung Association says that it leads to some of the worst air quality in the country. There are 39 high ozone days per year in the county. It puts more stress on the health care system. State spending on public health is among the lowest in the country. Arizona has some of the best cultural and recreational attractions in the country. It costs a lot to live in America's worst state.
