A former Central Intelligence Agency computer engineer has been found guilty of leaking a large amount of classified information. In 2016 Joshua Schulte stole a cache of documents from the CIA and gave them to Wikileaks, which published them in 2017: It was one of theCIA's worst breeches.

A federal jury in Manhattan found Schulte guilty of nine charges on Wednesday. He could be imprisoned for up to 80 years.

Federal prosecutors said that Schulte was a disgruntled employee who leaked the material out of resentment for his work. He claimed that the case against him was a political witch hunt and that he had been scapegoated.

The convicted man was denounced by the US Attorney.

Williams said that when Schulte began to harbor resentment towards the CIA, he covertly collected those tools and provided them to the public. One of the most damaging acts of espionage in American history has been found guilty by a jury today.

A number of hacking techniques used by the agency were revealed inVault 7. The leak showed that the CIA had developed the ability to hack into smart TVs and turn them into a spy device, that it had enlisted a previously unknown army of hackers, and that those keyboard warriors work around the clock to penetrate all sorts of smart phones, operating systems, popular communication. Zero-day vulnerabilities are unknown bugs that could be exploited to gain access to technical systems. According to the government, these tactics are used to break into terrorist networks.

Two years ago, a jury couldn't agree on a majority of the charges against him, and the case ended in a mistrial. When federal agents searched his home, they say they found child pornography on his devices.
