Russian missiles struck residential and office buildings in the central Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia, killing at least 20 people, in a continuation of strikes on civilian sites far away from the battlefield which Ukrainian officials have decried as acts of terrorism by Moscow.
The Ukrainian State Emergency Service posted on Facebook that an infant and two other children were killed in the strike.
There are several dead bodies, severed body parts, and a dead infant in a stroller at the scene of the incident.
In a post on Telegram, Ukrainian National Police chief Ihor Klymenko stated that the city was hit by three Russian missiles and that it damaged office buildings, residential apartments and an emergency medical center.
The State Emergency Service said 52 people were injured, but Klymenko said 90 people had sought help.
The Russian military is yet to comment on the strike that took place far away from the battlefield.
Russia carries out missile attacks on civilian facilities where there is no military target. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote a post on Telegram after the strike on Vinnytsia.
Multiple strikes on civilians have been carried out by Russia in eastern Ukraine. At least 24 people were killed when Russian missiles hit a residential block in the Donestk province, which is controlled by the Ukrainians. Russian missiles killed at least 21 people in Odesa last month. A few days prior to that a similar strike on a crowded mall in the central Ukrainian city of Kremenchuck left at least 19 people dead and drew strong international condemnation. Zelensky urged the US to label Russia a state sponsor of terrorism.
Twelve people, including a young child, were killed in a strike on the city of Vinnytsia.
