More than 500 women in the US have filed a lawsuit against the ride-sharing company, accusing it of allowing drivers to sexually assault them.
Women passengers were kidnapped, sexually assault, sexually battered, raped, falsely imprisoned, stalked, harassed, or otherwise attacked by the drivers of the ride-sharing service.
The case was filed in San Francisco.
"Sexual assault is a horrible crime, and we take every single report seriously," a spokesman for the ride-sharing company said.
New safety features, established survivor-centered policies, and being more transparent about serious incidents are just some of the things that have been built by the company. They said that they will keep safety at the forefront of their work.
According to the complaint, the sexual assaults took place in a number of states.
There are at least 150 cases that are being investigated.
According to the lawsuit, the company knew that its drivers were raping female passengers. The company prioritised growth over safety according to the filing.
"Uber's whole business model is predicated on giving people a safe ride home, but rider safety was never their concern - growth was at the expense of their passengers' safety," Adam said.
There were 998 sexual assault incidents, including 141 rape reports, in 2020.
The company said it had received over 3000 reports of the five most severe categories of sexual assault in the last two years.
There were more than 5,000 reports of sexual assault in the first safety report.
Non-consensual kissing of a non-sexual body part is one of the most serious categories of sexual assault.
