A feature test was launched in the midst of absolutely no chaos. Ten percent of users in the test group will be reminded to add descriptions to their photos.

A description of what appears in an image is called an alt text. These descriptions offer context for people using screen readers, who might be blind or low-vision, when the image doesn't load. It is important that everyone is included in the discussion.

The test is designed to increase the use of alt text. If you have access to the feature, you can navigate to your account's settings, click "Accessibility", and then scroll to the images. There's a way to remind you to add alt text before you send a message.

We’ve been talking about it. You’ve been asking for it. We’ve been working on it.

Today, we launched it: the image description reminder!

It is live to 10% of the world's followers on the web, mobile and app. This is one of the 6 pictures.

On July 13, it was announced that there would be accessibility on the social media site.

Turn on the reminder if you forget to add descriptions. The platform wrote a letter to everyone on the social networking site. Everyone would help everyone if everyone turned it on.

When an image has alt text, there are new features that make it more obvious. There are badges in the bottom of the photos that show whether the image has alt text or not. You can see the description when you click that button.

These reminders should come in handy if we forget to add descriptions. These pop-ups may be useful for users who don't know what alt text is.

People with disabilities and everyone who wants more context can benefit from image descriptions.

Sometimes, users of the service will use alt text to hide easter eggs or jokes for anyone who will click on the button. Users who need the alt text for context are confused by using image descriptions. It's more clear how to write good alt text when more people use accessibility features.

Well-written image descriptions are a topic of debate. If you see a photo of a woman eating a salad, you don't need to know what color the bowl is, or if the salad has croutons in it. It might be relevant to the context that she is mid-bite, or that she is staring angrily at the lettuce.

Some people pointed out how detailed NASA's image descriptions were when they released the first images from the James Webb Space Telescope. Their level of detail makes sense for a photograph of a large group of stars. Assuming you aren't on NASA's social team, you won't be able to meet the 1,000 character limit for whatever you post.

Over the last year, there have been accessibility features rolled out by the social network. According to the platform's accessibility-focused account, the team is working on expanding live caption on Spaces, closed caption on profile pictures, and text recognition for alt text and alt text for profile pictures.
