Musk Says New Tesla Plants Lose Billions in Rush to Spool Up

In order to prevent overtaxing the state's power grid,Tesla is asking its customers in Texas to avoid charging during peak times. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas or ERCOT is calling on residents to conserve electricity as the system is being pushed to near- emergency conditions due to the recent heat.

Customers were advised not to charge their vehicles from 3PM to 8PM. The alert states that a heat wave is expected to impact the grid in Texas. If possible, the grid operator suggests avoiding charging during peak hours between 3pm and 8pm.

ERCOT recommended that Texans not run major appliances from 2PM to 8PM.

During peak times, keeping an electric vehicle unplugged can help the grid. Customers are more likely to blow their air conditioners when the temperature is triple-digit. Texas' wind power is usually 25% of the state's electricity, but because of the heat dome it is not being generated anymore.
