Al Blackman celebrates 80 years with American Airlines

Azriel "Al" Blackman is celebrating his 80th year with American Airlines. Al works in New York. Blackman has the longest career as an airline mechanic in the world.

Al Blackman, American’s most senior employee

Blackman started working at American Export Airlines after graduating from Aviation High School. He was an apprenticeship in the sheet metal shop and made 50 cents an hour. He was able to get up from there.

I don't know if it's still the case, but as of a few years ago his shift would start at 5AM, but most days he'd arrive at work before 3AM.

I think the airline will soon have a press release about the upcoming 80th anniversary of American. He took a joy ride above New York after the airline dedicated a Boeing 777 in his honor. The former American CEO was present.

I bet we'll see a video from Al's 80th anniversary as well.

This is a pretty amazing feat

A 96-year-old man is still working and making jokes about the American dream. It's fair.

I can't help but be happy when I hear stories like this, because these kinds of employees have such passion for what they do. Blackman said that when he liked what he did it was not work. Thank you.

Being able to come to work every day and do something that we enjoy is something that most of us can only dream of. I think his job makes him happy.

Assuming Blackman doesn't come to work every day in order to make ends meet, that's a pretty awesome milestone.

The most senior flight attendant at American Airlines is 86 years old and celebrating her 65th anniversary at the airline. She is also a great person.
