Evans Hankey, Apple's industrial design chief, and Kate Bergeron, Apple's VP of hardware engineering, talked about the new MacBook Air in an interview with British GQ.
Hankey has been leading Apple's hardware design since Jony Ive left. Apple and Ive mutually agreed not to renew their contract, which marks the end of a 30-year partnership.
The MacBook Air does away with the wedge-shaped design in favor of a flatter design that Hankey described as "quite honest and simple."
Hankey said that the new design doesn't need to be played with shape or form. It's quite honest and simple, that's one of the most remarkable things.
The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models were also designed by Hankey. She said it was the first time they did a family of products.
Hankey said that the new finish on the MacBook Air came from the volcanic rock Basalt.
The 12-inch MacBook was discontinued by Apple in the year 2019.
It didn't have MagSafe and was ahead of its time, but it didn't have one. The size of the product made it hard for us to fit things in.
The 12-inch MacBook had a thin and light design and was Apple's first notebook with a fanless design. The original model had an issue-prone butterfly keyboard and was powered by Intel's lackluster Core M processor.
The MacBook Air is larger and heavier than the 12-inch MacBook.
embargoed reviews of the notebook are expected to be published tomorrow In the United States, pricing starts at $1,199 for a configuration with the M2 chip, 8 gigabytes of unified memory, and a 512 gigabytes solid state drive.
