Appalachian High Route: a new way to hike the highest peaks in the Southeast

The peaks of the Southeast are a great place to go if you want to see an endless mountainscape and thick forests. The new 343-mile loop connects a series of pre-existing trails in the region for a multi day hike through the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee.

Every hiker seems to be wearing a hip pack or waist pack on the trail. The pack is lightweight and has the ability to wear a backpack. The ease of grabbing a snack, water filter, or cell phone is what makes these packs so useful.

The Trans Bhutan Trail: an ancient route is reimagined as a hiking trail

This September, the Trans Bhutan Trail will be open for international visitors. The route was used for commerce, travel and pilgrimages until it was closed in the 1960's. Bhutan's natural treasures will be accessible to explorers by foot, thanks to the reopening of the route. It is possible to connect with the country's history and culture by walking from the country's border with Tibet to its border with India.

Hikers in Bhutan will be able to go for the first time in 60 years.

Zagros Mountain Trail: Long-distance hiking in Kurdistan

Iraqi Kurdistan has never had a route dedicated to hiking long distances before. The new 137-mile Zagros Mountain Trail through Kurdistan will use historic pilgrimage routes and pass remote mountain villages. It will be a unique way to explore the region.

Lost Sierra Route

The Lost Sierra Route is intended to connect wilderness to mountain towns. The trail will go through dense forests, wide open basins, and peaks over 10,000 feet. The sections are scheduled to open as early as next year.
