The African Leadership Group has an agreement to acquire Holberton. The seven-year-old company with physical schools across the globe will split in two. The existing 34 Holberton locations will be spun out to become a stand-alone business under current Holberton COO.
The company's early focus on in-person education put a lot of pressure on it as a result of the swine flu. Holberton pivoted to mostly focus on software as a service and began offering a white-labeled online learning platform to others after those locations closed. Barbier said that a number of potential acquirers approached him last year, but he didn't think they were a great fit with the company's current financial situation. Barbier, who will join ALG with most of the Holberton tech team, said that he was happy about the numbers, even though neither party disclosed the acquisition price.
