According to Shams Charania of Stadium and The Athletic, the NBA Board of Governors discussed the possibility of all 30 teams playing in an in-season tournament.

The Final Four would be held at a neutral site if eight teams advanced.

In May, Charania reported that the NBA was considering an in-season tournament given the success of the play-in tournament.

The regular-season schedule would be shortened to 78 games by the inclusion of an in-season tournament, according to Adrian.

Similar in-season tournaments are held during professional soccer seasons, which usually see teams from other leagues play against each other, such as the U.K.'s Carlsberg Cup, where a team from the English premier league can play a team from Spain's La Liga.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver was "intrigued" by the success of the in-season soccer tournaments, and he thinks NBA fans would enjoy a similar tournament in basketball.

There would be rewards for the players in an in- season tournament. The NBA and NBPA have talked about a purse of $1 million for each player on the winning team.

The NBA is hoping that lucrative television and sponsorship revenue will deliver long-term financial growth, according to a report.

During the 2020 season, the NBA introduced the play-in tournament, which was suspended for months because of the COVID-19 epidemic.

Four teams from each conference will compete in a tournament to determine the final two seeds in the play-in tournament.

The Brooklyn Nets and Atlanta Hawks both made it to the Eastern Conference playoffs last year.

The NBA wants to hold an in-season tournament with the play-in tournament here to stay. If it were to happen right before the holidays, it would be quite entertaining.
