The Austin American-Statesman obtained video footage that shows police on the scene not confronting the suspect for more than an hour after they arrived.

An edited video shows an 18-year-old man crashing his truck, firing shots outside, and entering a school with an assault rifle.

The security camera footage shows a child running in the opposite direction after seeing Ramos fire the first rounds into the classroom.

Police arrived at the school just minutes after Ramos, but the footage shows how officers were confused and hesitant on how to approach the situation, and they retreated after Ramos fired more shots.

The video shows how they kept their distance even as more officers arrived and at one point the footage shows more than a dozen heavily-armed officers whispering to each other.

One hour and 14 minutes after police arrived on the scene, a team of officers entered the classroom and killed Ramos, according to video timestamps.

The release of the footage has caused controversy. The Texas Department of Public Safety said in a letter last week that the Uvalde County District Attorney objected to the release of the videos. After the video is shown to the victims' families, it will be released on Sunday. The Uvalde police have been criticized for their response to the shooting. Pete Arredondo resigned from the Uvalde City Council and was placed on leave.

The hallway footage will be released on Sunday.
