Few people are so passionate about their dislike of NFTs that they would surprise a gaming conference by giving a detailed presentation about why they're so bad.

Mark Venturelli, a game developer, teleconferenced into Brazil's International Games Festival over the weekend to trash NFTs, all while he had Covid-19.

Venturelli told the crowd in Portuguese that he fooled them. My talk is not about the future of video games. I had to change it. It's called 'Why NFTs are a nightmare'.

The sleight-of-hand was met with loud applause from the crowd.

In an interview with PC Gamer after the stunt, the developer admits it was a bit of a gimmick, but claims the conference's organizers had okayed it before.

"These people aren't important, they're outsiders here, they're not important at all," Venturelli told PC Gamer. They don't have an influence over the future of our industry.

The sponsors were not happy about the talk.

The sponsors got really mad according to Venturelli. The organization wouldn't allow them to break into the talk. The organization did not censor me or stop me from putting what I wanted on the slides. They got to see the slides before the talk. There was no intent on their part to shut me up.

He said that many game developers were intent on boycotting the festival, but he teleconferenced in to make his point because he believed so strongly in it.

He told the gaming website that if they didn't go to it, they would lose. We are just saying we will not do it anymore. This cannot be done by us. We need to go in a different direction.

We vow to be like this guy.

A developer's talk about the future of gaming turned into an attack on the convention's sponsors.
