How shocking is Gronk's retirement? (1:23)

Rob Gronkowski announced his retirement from the NFL. There is a time and a place for it.

12:28 PM ET

Rob said Tuesday that his retirement is final and that he is concentrating on business ventures with his family.

"I'm done with sports," the player said.

It's a game that I love. I'm blessed with all the opportunities the game of football has given me, including here in New England where I've been with the Pats for nine seasons and down in Florida for two. I am done with football, stepping my feet into the business world, and just seeing what is out there and where I can find my place.

After the team's three-day mini camp ended on June 13, Gronkowski called the team to let them know he was going to retire.

Rob Gronkowski said he plans to be involved with the company that sponsored the event after he stops playing.

When asked if it would be difficult for him to turn down Tom Brady if he asked him to return to football, he said that wouldn't happen.

Drew is the top football agent out there and he loves seeing his players play in the NFL.

I think the greatest quarterback of all time is me. How is he doing? Let him know that I'm doing well. I would not return to football.

After an injury-plagued season with the New England Revolution, Gropper retired. He credits Brady with setting the expectations for his career, and Brady called him out of retirement in 2020 to play for the Buccaneers.
