Scorecard

In the first one-day international at The Oval, England were skittled out for just over 100.

After the hosts were put into bat, all four of them were out for ducks.

India's pace attack, led by Jasprit Bumrah, was irresistible and 3-7 soon became 26-5 when Jonny Bairstow and Liam Livingstone fell.

It was the first time in a home one-dayer that Buttler captained England.

England were still 27 adrift of their lowest score when he holed out.

Bumrah took 6-19 as England were dismissed in just 25.2 overs.

One of England's heaviest defeats in recent times was inflicted by India in the day-night match, which finished before sundown.

The tourists won the Twenty20 series last week and are in control of the three- match series.

The next two games are on Thursday and Sunday.

England blown away

Roy, Root and Stokes all out for ducks as India make stunning start

This was supposed to be England's batting line-up at full strength, with Bairstow,Stokes andRoot returning to white ball action.

They were all part of a top order that was destroyed by India's opening burst.

The Oval pitch offered a lot of bounce and zip and Bumrah removed Roy andRoot in the second over.

Three of England's top four were out for ducks for only the second time in an One-Day International when Ben Stokes was caught by Rishabh Pant off Mohammed Shami.

Buttler became the second of Shami's three victims in the 15th over, but England still held out hope.

There was a standing applause from many inside the ground when England scored three figures.

Their total was the 11th lowest in the series and their batting average was the fourth shortest. It's the first time England have lost by that much.

After their new era under Matthew Mott began with a thumping win in the Netherlands, but after two heavy defeats in the T20 series, it is becoming a difficult start.

Bumrah leads rampant India

Roy tried to drive a wide ball and Livingstone tried to work a yorker to the leg side but they were both dismissed by impressive bowling rather than poor shot-making.

Bairstow's incredible red-ball run was overshadowed by the fact that Bumrah's line and movement left Bairstow tentative. When he decided to leave, he took another one-handed catch in front of the slip.

Bumrah's first spell was 4-9 in five overs, and he was backed up by Shami who got Craig Overton out for a duck with a delivery that went through the gate and hit the top of off.

Bumrah held his arms out wide after bowling Carse with a yorker in the second over.

Willey made him the last batter to fall when he tried a scoop. Bumrah was the fourth best bowler in England.

When one hit a young child in the stands, it was the biggest moment of worry.

Unlike the batting line-up, England's attack is missing a number of first-choice players but they wouldn't have defended such a total.

Buttler 'won't panic' - what they said

Jos Buttler looks disappointed
Jos Buttler was captaining England for the 10th time in one-day cricket

We have to analyse it as quickly as possible and learn from it.

There was a little bit in the pitch and India was able to take advantage of it. The conditions that are toughest for us as a team are the ones Jasprit Bumrah was outstanding in.

I'm not going to be panicked. It won't help us if we do that. The guys in the teams are some of the best players to ever play the format for England so we don't want to panic, but one thing we must pride ourselves on is learning.

The guys who can come in and exploit the conditions are what we worry about.

When the pitches were flat, we came out and did the job. There was some swing and seam in today's weather. We were able to take advantage of those conditions.
