The former Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears running back died of heatstroke.

The medical examiner in Plano ruled that Barber's death was an accident. The medical examiner's office did not respond to a message from The Associated Press about the circumstances of the death of the 38 year old.

The police made a welfare check at the apartment on June 1 and found Barber dead.

He spent six seasons with the Cowboys after being a fourth-round pick. He had 24 combined touchdown in 2006 and 2007. Barber had a career-high 14 touchdown runs in 2006

He made his only Pro Bowl in 2007, when he had a career-high 975 yards rushing and 10 touchdown. He had career lows in carries, yards and touchdown in his last year in Dallas. The last season that Barber played was with the Chicago Bears.
