When Republicans are poised to make major gains nationwide, Ron DeSantis is up for reelection in the state of Florida.
Despite the seemingly Republican tilt of the state in recent contests, Mark Leibovich told Insider that his reelection is not a sure thing. Since 1998, Republicans have won every governor's election in the state, despite the fact that Barack Obama and Donald Trump both won the state in 2008.
Leibovich, a staff writer at The Atlantic and author of the forthcoming book, "Thank You for Your Servitude: Donald Trump's Washington and the Price of Submission," commented that the Florida and Texas have often been close in statewide elections.
He explained that the state has become so influential because of Trump's decision to move his political base to South Florida.

A lot of transplants come from New York and New Jersey. He's around his age. They have a lot of his political views. They went to The Villages or Boca.

He said that there are people who have become national figures. In addition to the Trump center of gravity there are some other prominent figures.
A lot is going on between Texas and Florida. He believes that the two poles of the Republican Party are now.
Leibovich said that he would face either Crist or Fried in the race for governor.
Out of more than 8 million votes cast, Andrew Gillum lost to Ron DeSantis by a small margin.
Leibovich said that the state is swinging. It's not a sure thing that DeSantis will be reelected.
