DC United has hired Wayne Rooney as their new head coach.
Rooney joined Derby as a player- coach in January 2020.
After they parted company with Phillip Cocu, he was put in interim charge of the team.
Three months after Rooney was confirmed in the post, he decided to retire as a player.
Chris Kirchner's takeover of Derby was supposed to keep Manchester United's record-holder in his role, but he left after it fell through.
DC United have been without a manager since April and were defeated by Philadelphia Union on Friday.
DC is expected to unveil the player who made his professional debut at the tender age of 16.
