The Pat Bowlen Trust agreed to sell the Broncos to an ownership group led by Rob Walton, his daughter Carrie and her husband Greg Penner.
Rice replaced Colin Powell as Secretary of State during Bush's second term.
The chair of the board for Starbucks and a JP Morgan Chase director are also part of the ownership group.

The sale is being considered by the owners of the league.
Rice was a member of the inaugural College Football Playoff Committee.
