According to a New York Times/Siena College poll, almost two-thirds of Democratic voters don't want to see President Joe Biden run for re- election in 2024, as the president battles issues such as rising inflation and criticism from some progressive Democrats.
34% of the Democrats who wanted to see a candidate other than Biden said his age was the most important factor, while 32% said it was due to his job performance.
12% of voters would prefer a new candidate, while 10% would prefer someone with more progressive politics.
More than 75% of voters said the economy was important to them, while 15% said inflation and cost of living were the most important issues.
The survey found that only a small number of Democrats want Biden to run.
27% of Democrats think the country is moving in the right direction, compared to only 13% of all voters who think the nation is on the right track.
Only 20% of female Democratic voters think the country is on the right track, compared to 39% of male voters, according to a poll taken after the Supreme Court's decision on abortion.
The release of the poll comes after Juleanna Glover, who has advised several Republican candidates in her role as the CEO of public affairs advisory firm Ridgely|Walsh, wrote an opinion article on the subject. If Biden doesn't run for president in 2024, Jon Stewart should run as a Democrat because he may be more motivated to do so if Tucker Carlson runs as a Republican.
