The third season of The Boys came and went, but viewers are still reeling from the finale, which I think was the best season yet.
After Homelander introduces his son to his fans, a protestor throws something that harmlessly bounces off Ryan. It might have been a dream sequence where he wished he could do that, but here he actually did it.
As everyone sits around stunned, MM's daughter's step dad starts cheering, which causes the entire crowd to cheer. I think I heard someone say, "That's how we do it in America!" Ryan seems to be grinning, which is the frame the finale ends on, as Homelander smiles, realizing he can now be his true self.
If you watched this and are aware of Donald Trump's politics, you would probably think of a very specific Donald Trump quote. Eric Kripke has now confirmed that the scene was created to bring that quote to life.
Donald Trump talked about the die-hard support he had when he was a candidate.
I would not lose any voters if I stood in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shot someone. It's really amazing.
It seemed to be the case that there was nothing Trump could do to lose his core base of support, which is what happened when he became President. The Boys wanted to see what would happen if the same thing happened to him. KRipke to Deadline.
Is it possible to kill someone on Fifth Avenue and then be applauded for it? It's hilarious. The more awful politicians are behaving, the more popular they are with their fans.
The recent trend of Republicans posing with guns and threatening their political opponents in campaign ads is a reference to Trump. Eric Greitens encouraged "RINO hunting".
He offered his followers the chance to hunt people. People seem to be applauding the fact that things are getting worse. I think that is the point we are trying to make.
The Boys is doing political allegory, and it has a political plotline with a Supe agent poised to win the Vice Presidency, and then take over as President. Homelander went after the media for their lies and embraced conspiracy theories from Trump's supporters. Homelander had previously quoted George W. Bush.
We will see what form that takes next as season 4 continues to be a direct parallel to what Kripke views as an increasingly scary America.
