The trailer for Man vs Bee looked ridiculous, but in a fun way, and I wondered how the heck they were able to make it work. It would have been better if it had been a movie.
The second thought grew stronger as I watched the show for the first time over the weekend, only to discover that the episodes average 12 minutes each.
Some of the episodes are less than 10 minutes in length.
Don't get me wrong, the show is fun, it's basically a sort of Home Alone-like Mr Bean which sees Atkinson getting himself into increasingly cringey and ridiculous situations as he tries to deal with his insect problem. It's quite entertaining. Why didn't they split it into nine chapters when it was a perfect movie length? It was a financial decision on the part of the company. It could be an experiment to see how long the show lasted.

It was either that or something else. Will Davies, one of the co- creators of the show, contacted the streamer on Monday, even though they didn't have a response. It was planned from the beginning.
Davies said that having a series of short episodes was one of the reasons why he was interested in the project. He liked the idea of chapters and cliffhangers at the end of each one. There was something about the bite size that suited the size of the bee.
You have it, so there you have it. The show will not be for everyone, but the chapters are useful for a tea break.
The movie Man vs Bee is currently available on the streaming service.
