The loss of Simone Magill is an opportunity for other players to step up, according to Kenny Shiels.

Magill is out of the Euros due to an injury.

After being knocked out against the Norwegians, Caldwell should be okay, according to Shiels.

We have to be completely selfish on the pitch. It must be about the whole team.

The Austrians lost to England in their opener, ending their hopes of progressing.

In World Cup qualification, Northern Ireland have played Austria twice. In October and April, the sides played each other, with Austria winning in April and drawing in October.

  • 'Northern Ireland owe Austria for past heartbreak'

The manager admits his side will have to adapt for their second match because of the absence of Magill.

All of us have to step up. We can't sound like we're making excuses for Simone's absence.

One of our main assets is her. She can do what we need to change how we play because we don't have that kind of player.

That's sports. That's how things go. It's like setbacks. You can sometimes adapt. When we played Austria in October, we lost five players, but four of them were automatic starters, and we were absolutely brilliant.

Callaghan 'good to go' from the start

It was a chance for some younger players to gain experience.

The 66-year-old said that there is an opportunity for others to come in and get some game time at the finals.

The experience the young girls will receive is priceless. There are players coming to the end of their career, but the young ones have to learn from the more senior players, their professionalism in how they prepare for games

The next wave of players will benefit from this tournament. They are more motivated to play for Northern Ireland now than they have been before. We'll keep pushing forward.

If called upon from the start, Captain Callaghan said she would be good to go. The 36-year-old came off the bench for Caldwell at half-time against Norway as she came back from a toe injury.

"It was great to get on when I did, I'm feeling great," said Callaghan.

The minutes in the tank are more important than the experience. I'm ready to leave and I'm feeling great.
