In the year 2021, planes left 12 minutes and 24 seconds late fromBirmingham, which was followed by other airports.

Cancelled flights are not included in the rankings.

Many delays were able to make up time in the air.

The decrease in flight numbers was caused by the coronaviruses.

A spokesman said that last year was a "dark time for aviation" and that the airport was reduced to just a quarter of normal staffing.

He said that flights taking off late were able to catch up.

There are more than 100 short-haul routes at the UK's seventh busiest airport.

Jet2.com is one of the airlines that have bases there.

The annual wage of the airport's chief executive, Nick Barton, went up by 50% last year, angering trade unions.

The increase came after large-scale job cuts in the sector, but the airport said it was paid in line with market rates.

The airport was used by over 12 million passengers in the year before the Pandemic, but only 2.5 million in the year after.

The reduction in flights due to the Covid crisis resulted in the ranking being better than before.

Holidaymakers have experienced wide-scale flight cancellation as well as long lines at check-in and airport security.

She wanted the authority to have the power to fine airlines for rule breaking.

She said that ministers should not slash compensation rates for delayed or canceled flights.

The plan to tackle flight disruption was published by the transport secretary.

Encouraging airlines to make sure their schedules are "deliverable", an "amnesty on airport slot rules", and allowing new aviation workers to begin training before passing security checks were included.

Changing compensation rules for domestic flights is one of the things the government consulted on.
