The Braves are adding a lefty to their lineup.
The Braves have acquired second baseman Robinson Cano from the Padres in exchange for cash considerations, according to Jon Heyman.
After the New York Mets released him, he joined the Padres. After turning down San Diego's request to go to Triple-A, he re-signed with the team on a minor league deal.
In 104 plate appearances, the second baseman slashed.333/.373/.479. After hitting.149/.182/.189 over 77 plate appearances with the Mets and Padres, the 39-year-old seems to have gotten his bearings again.
A bounce-back performance in the minor leagues seems to be enough for the Braves. Heyman said that he will join Atlanta's major league roster on Monday.
The Braves will have to make up for the absence of second baseman Ozzie Albies, who is out until at least mid-August, with the addition of Robinson. Atlanta's lineup is dominated by right-handed pitchers, so it's necessary to add a lefty bat.
The Braves completed a three-game sweep of the Washington Nationals with a 4-3 victory Sunday and have now won eight of their last 10 games. The Braves are 1.5 games behind the Mets for first place in the National League East, and they will play a three-game series with the Mets.
