The calls for the impeachment of Associate Justice Clarence Thomas were not realistic, according to Sen. Dick Durbin.

During an interview on "Fox News Sunday," the Illinois Democrat, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, told anchor Mike Emanuel that the judge should "show good judgement" and not preside over cases related to the Capitol riot.

He said that the removal of Thomas, who has sat on the bench since 1991, is not likely.

"I don't believe it's realistic," he said. There is a clear conflict of interests when it comes to Justice Thomas and the January 6 insurrection.

His wife is active in politics. During this crisis, I went so far as to give direct advice to the chief of staff. Justice Thomas should not be involved in any decisions related to January 6. He was the only one who voted on that case. I don't think it's a good idea.

When the court ruled that Trump couldn't prevent the release of documents, Thomas was the sole dissenter.

Thomas has faced calls to resign from cases related to the Capitol riot due to the efforts of his wife, who had documented conversations with allies of former President Donald Trump in trying to overturn the election of Joe Biden.

The congressman threw cold water on the impeachment.

It is not realistic to think that he will be impeached. He should show good judgement.

Many Democrats criticized Thomas as a part of the conservative bloc that struck down the court decision that legalized abortion in the United States.
