There has been a lot of hype since they announced that Natalie Portman would reprise her role as Jane Foster in the movie. The movie was going to be a hit at the box office even though it was delayed a couple of times and Taika Waititi was increasing his star power in the years between films. Love & Thunder made a big opening swing at the box office and did exactly what you would expect.

Chris Hemsworth's fourth solo movie as the thunder god has opened to more than $150 million in the US, making it the biggest opening of all the other THOR movies. It is the third- biggest domestic opening of the year, behind Doctor Strange 2 andJurassic World. The international opening has resulted in a $302 million global opening. The film isn't quite as good as it was before it was released, but it's sitting pretty right now. It will be interesting to see how far this film will go now that it is being perceived as a lesser follow-up.

The Despicable Me prequel has now earned $399.9 million, which is close to the $400 million benchmark, after last week's Rise of Gru had a sizable opening. It earned over 50 million dollars in the US between Friday and Sunday. It was a drop off from opening weekend but still got an additional boost in international markets.

The movie adaptation of Mark Greaney's spy thrillers The Gray Man and Where the Crawdads Sing are both coming to theaters next week. Nope and WB animation's DC League of Super Pets will be competing for attention in the last few weeks of July. In the long run, the two THORs will do well, but the month of July will make them work harder for it.

Variety has a story on it.
