David Gergen, a former presidential advisor, said in a recent interview that it's inappropriate for candidates to pursue the presidency after they've turned 80.

He told The New York Times that he doesn't think it's appropriate toseek that office after you're 80. Over the last two or three years, I have come to the conclusion that it would be foolish for me to run any organization.

He said that you are not as sharp as you used to be.

Gergen, a political commentator who served under former presidents Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton, said that the highly-demanding position would present a challenge to an older person.

A concern about age has been raised by some as the 2024 presidential election could feature two candidates, Joe Biden and Donald Trump, who could serve into their 80s if they win.

According to an earlier Times report, some Democrats are concerned about President Biden's approval ratings and are wondering if he should run for reelection in four years.

If Biden were to be re-elected in four years, he would be 81 years old when he takes the oath of office in five. He would be 86 years old at the end of his second term.

The former President would be 78 in November 2024. He would celebrate his 80th birthday if he won the White House.

S Jay Olshansky, a longevity specialist at the University of Illinois Chicago, told The Times that there isn't much proof that Biden's age should be a factor in voters' minds.

There is no evidence that the age of Biden should matter. People can vote for someone else if they don't like what he has to say. It doesn't have anything to do with how old he is.
