France is ranked third in the world and has some of the best players in Europe, but they have never won a women's major tournament.

Despite off-field distraction and disappointing results in past tournaments, many are writing them off this summer, but will they produce the goods at the European Championships?

'We need to find a way to do better'

France has sat fourth or higher in the world's top 10 since the beginning of the year.

A large number of the squad play their club football with Lyon, who have won six of the past seven European Championships, including five in a row before 2020.

Marie-Antoinette Katoto has won the Division 1 Feminine Golden Boot in three of the past four seasons.

Why don't they translate club success to international success?

It would be good for us if I had the answer.

A lot of people in France think that we are a favorite, but we have never won a trophy. We have never gotten there.

The French teams have done well in the competition, but the national team is completely different. We need to find a way to do better than we did the last time we competed.

The French people want success.

She said they were happy with that and they took it. We have a lot of experienced players who play in big games for their clubs.

I don't know why we don't step up, but I hope this is the year we do. We are not hiding, but we don't know if we are the favorites of the competition.

'Diacre is demanding but we need that'

Corinne Diacre
France manager Corinne Diacre has been in charge since 2017

Manager Diacre was the first woman to coach a men's professional team when she took over the team at the age of 33.

Her management style has caused a stir.

In 2017, she stripped Renard of the France captaincy. In 2019, she left Katoto out of the World Cup squad. After their quarter-final exit, she criticised Eugenie le Sommer for not following tactics which surprised the Lyon forward. In 2020, Amandine Henry - Diacre's captain in 2019 - was dropped from the squad after the midfielder claimed it was "total chaos" in camp.

Le Sommer and Henry won't be going to the European Championships.

She said that she is the type of manager France needs.

Now, we know each other better. "Diacre is just a normal person, that's what I'm saying." The media in France are not easy on her. She has a large background in football.

She is a demanding person who knows what she wants.

She went through a lot in the last few years, including the World Cup.

It's understandable that the team hasn't done well with so much going on off the pitch, but it hasn't been a distraction.

You get used to it when you play for France. She doesn't believe there is a question of us being mentally weak.

We are already asking ourselves what the problem is. A lot has changed for the group. There is a new generation of strong people. We will see when you change the group and players.

'Renard is a proper leader and captain'

Wendie Renard
Wendie Renard has won 14 league titles and eight European Cups with Lyon

There is a lot of promise from that new generation.

France have not lost since a 2-0 defeat by the USA in April of 2021.

Sandy Baltimore and Katoto form a strong partnership in attack.

The Lyon players who started the win over Barcelona are in great shape.

Renard is the most important player in France, and is expected to have a huge influence at the Euros.

It's great to play with her. There is a lot of good. The training for the national team is quite high. "She is a leader."

The conversations I have with Wendie are incredible. She's so inspiring. She is focused and doesn't need to speak. She is the first and last person to ever train.

She's a really nice person, even though people think she's strong. She's a great leader and a good captain.
