The Boys wrapped its third season a few days ago and is taking a break until season four, which is expected to hit next year. A lot happened throughout the eight-episode season, and the show is shaping up to be different from the source material. Eric Kripke has opened up about what the future holds for the heroes and dickheads of the series.

Eric Kripke talked about what's in store for next season in a postmortem with Variety. He said that the plan is for season four to be a more character driven outing and that the writing staff is in the middle of breaking the season down. Everyone is facing their core issues in a way that is exciting and fun. Billy Butcher, Karl Urban's character, discovered during the finale that he has 18 months to live before he dies due to the effects of Temp V, a drug that temporarily gives its users the power of super strength. Kripke and crew want to know if Butcher is self aware enough to realize that he is causing his own misfortune. Does he know if he can change?

The Seven have had a lot of shake ups. Only Homelander, The Deep, and A-Train are the only members of the team who are still alive. Queen Maeve faked her death so she could leave the superhero game and live with her boyfriend, Nicolas Correia- Damude. Whoever joins the hero team next will have to sympathize with Homelander's crazy cause. Now that he has the power to make those decisions, he has to stack the deck with his allies. Mitchell will return next season as a different version of the character, which Kripke said would be an interesting and hilarious character. Black Noir II is similar to a Disney princess.

The idea of fathers and sons has been the focus of much of the third season. He introduced his son to the public at the end of the season. Ryan is excited to watch his dad kill the kid after he gets hit. It will be a priority for Butcher next season to figure out a way to save Ryan. There are two Homelanders if Homelander wins the child. Ryan can bring an end to Homelander and the Seven if he is turned. It's nice of The Boys to pretend it's possible.
