The claim "abortion until birth" has been parroted by abortion opponents for years and weaponized to limit abortion rights despite opposition from experts.

Doctors warn that misinformation is pervasive and not reality as Republicans work towards a nationwide abortion ban.

Donald Trump popularized the idea of doctors performing gruesome abortions on full-term unborn babies, which are defined by The National Institute of Health as being 39-40 weeks pregnant.

In the ninth month, you can take the baby and rip the baby out of the mother's uterus, said Trump at the third presidential debate. The baby can be taken out of the womb on the final day. That's not right.

The claim was made by the former Vice President in the debate.

"I'm pro-life, I don't apologize for that," said the vice president. They support taxpayer funding of abortion all the way up to the moment of birth.

The House heard about access to abortion services in May. "If a woman is just seconds away from birth, it's time to have an abortion," said Johnson.

Robinson said that the question doesn't reflect abortion care in the US.

Abortion on demand is a 'complete falsehood,' medical expert says

It's not the same as abortion that's allowed up to the moment of birth, according to retired gynecologist Debbie McNabb.

When I'm in labor and have an abortion, I'm going to smoke a cigarette and file my nails. That's crazy, but that's what the Republicans are telling you. 'Abortion up to the moment of birth' is a lie.

The data doesn't support the claims of Republicans that they are deeply concerned about abortion all the way up to the moment of birth.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 79.9% of abortions were performed before 9 weeks' gestation, and 94.7% were performed before 13 weeks' gestation.

Less than 1% of abortions occurred after 21 weeks, which is still months away from the full term definition of 39-40 weeks.

The vice president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-life America said that the Democrats supported abortion up to the moment of birth.

In an email to Insider, a spokesman for SBA Pro-life America argued that "very late-term abortions are very much a reality in the United States." The term "late-term abortion" is a non-medical term that has been used to describe abortions that happen after 21 weeks of pregnancy.

The reported pregnant women had not reached full-term. The safety of the mother or fetal abnormality was noted in some instances.

According to a study cited by SBA, most abortions in the United States take place in the first trimester.

The research says that abortions at later times are uncommon. According to the research, the cases of these 28 women show the impossibility of eliminating the need for abortion.

An abortion at full-term is a medical emergency according to McNabb.

An abortion at term is a desired pregnancy in the context of an extremely dire emergency without enough time for a safe C-section when a woman would otherwise die. No amount of medical information can inform a law-making body enough to draft a specific law. This doesn't fit in the legal world.

Misinformation around abortion is 'extremely pervasive'

Doctors are trained to make high-stakes decisions for their patients in a medical emergency, and they will try to save the lives of both if they can.

Unless the woman expresses otherwise, we don't sacrifice the life of a fetus for her. Only a doctor can make this decision. Lawmakers don't have the decision-making capacity in these gray areas of medicine, so they shouldn't get involved.

According to McNabb, misinformation surrounding abortion is used to garner votes.

Politicians have learned that if they tell a lie early enough, loudly enough, frequently enough, and over a long period of time, people will believe them. These lies are told by politicians in order to maintain their personal positions, power, and wealth.

If Republicans regain the majority in the House and the Senate in the next couple of years, they will make it illegal to have an abortion in the United States.
