The New York Knicks cleared more cap space on Friday by waiving Taj Gibson, as they continued to wait for the signing of their newest player.

He had a $5 million cap hold with the Knicks for the 2022-23 season.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, he will sign with the Wizards once he clears waivers.

The salary for next season was not guaranteed. After being released by the organization, he signed a two-year, $10.1 million deal with the Knicks.

The Knicks have spent a lot of time clearing cap space They secured an agreement with Brunson on a four-year, $104 million deal at the beginning of free agency.

The rest of the roster will likely be filled with that money. The Knicks will only have 12 players under contract when the deals are finalized.

Kristaps will be the starter in Washington if he stays healthy. After being acquired at the trade deadline from the Dallas Mavericks, he averaged 22.1 points and 8.8 rebound per game in 17 starts.

Daniel Gafford, who had a good season with 9.4 points and 5.7 rebound per game in 72 appearances, should be the second center because of his age and upside.

Another big man will be used off the bench by the Wizards. He played in 52 games for the Knicks last season and averaged 4.2 points and 4.2 boards.
