The San Diego Padres said Friday that outfielder Jurickson Profar has been diagnosed with a concussion and neck strain after colliding with a teammate.

Profar was discharged from the hospital overnight, according to the Padres.

Profar and C.J.Abrams ran into each other while trying to catch a fly ball. Profar was hit in the jaw by the knee ofAbrams.

Profar tried to leave the field. He was taken to the hospital.

The manager of the Padres said that Profar did not lose consciousness despite collapsing.

Profar helped lighten the mood during the scare.

He makes it easier because he's smiling. There is a man laying down smiling. He went down again after we got him up. It's terrible to put someone on a stretcher. The way he is trying to make everyone feel good about it makes you feel better.

In his third season with the Padres, Profar is having a good year with a.279 batting average.

The 19-year-old was a member of the Texas Rangers when he broke into the majors. He was a top infield prospect at the time.

The Oakland A's traded Profar to the Padres after a single season.
