After six years with the Championship rivals, Allen was a free agent and chose to join the team.

Ten years after leaving his hometown club, he is back.

Flynn Downes left to join West Ham in a five-year deal believed to be worth about £12m.

After they matched the Eagles' offer, the young man wanted to join West Ham.

Downes, who was born in Essex, excelled atSwansea last season after joining from Ipswich Town for about $1.4m.

The former England Under-20s player has made a lot of money for the club.

Russell Martin was able to sign Allen after he left.

After making 150 senior appearances, Allen left forLiverpool in a £15m deal.

Martin said he wanted to sign Allen at the end of last season, but the owners of the club wouldn't allow it until the players left.

Martin wanted Allen to play alongside Downes and Matt Grimes in the middle of the park in 2022-23, but Downes' departure has led to a deal for Allen.
